Orbs…How I Loathe Thee

There is a common belief among certain people that pictures featuring orbs are evidence of ghosts. Orbs appear in photographs and video as spheres of white light that commonly move in an unusual fashion. Because orbs seem to have unusual characteristics, it has been speculated in the paranormal community that the orb is the most basic form of energy in the spirit world.

There are hardly any legitimate photos of full-bodied apparitions, but an abundance of orb photos. Therefore, it has been speculated that orbs indicate the presence of paranormal activity or a ghost trying to manifest. It sounds good, especially when you consider that orbs are a common thing photographed in places that are believed to be haunted.

Now, I can’t say that orbs never indicate the presence of paranormal activity or that orbs are never an indication of ghosts. I can’t say that with 100% certainty. What I can tell you, however, is there are number of mundane explanations that cause the same thing. Dust particles, bugs, moisture, reflections, and other things can cause the same effect. With a little bit of searching on the internet, you can find very detailed scientific explanations for orbs and why they appear to be something more unusual than a piece of dust floating around.

Since there are numerous explanations for this phenomenon that requires no belief in the existence of ghosts, it does not hold up as evidence supporting the existence of ghosts. It really discredits the paranormal community when people try to use photos of orbs as evidence of ghosts.

You can show me a photo photo of an orb and tell me that it proves that a house is haunted, but all it proves to me is that a house is dusty.

Don’t believe everything you see. Use your brain and your experience to find the truth.
